B&T Suppressor Confusion

B&T call their suppressors simply something like “Rifle suppressor Rotex V”, which can be interpreted that the suppressor is called “Rotex V”, while in reality it is an attachment option - and the suppressor is called “Rifle suppressor”! Also there is a suppressor called MARS, which uses the attachment option MARS, which can also be used by other suppressors. But MARS suppressor can also be Direct-Mountable. Confused? Read this article.

This info is not official, just a summary on how I think B&T suppressors are organized. Only rifle suppressors in .223 are considered.

B&T has different suppressors:

  • “Rifle Suppressor” (“Gewehr Schalldämpfer”)
  • RBS (Reduced-Backpressure Suppressor)
  • MARS
  • GRS
  • Rotex-x

And various attachment options for their suppressors:

  • Direct-Mountable (DM) (direct threading)
  • Rotex IIA (sometimes called QDR)
  • Rotex V
  • QDN (NATO)
  • QDM (MARS)

Used muzzle device:

  • DM: Directly threaded
  • Rotex IIA: Rotex IIA, which is SureFire SOCOM
  • Rotex V: standard NATO A2
  • QDN: standard NATO A2
  • QDM: proprietary MARS
  • QDR: Rotex-IIA / SureFire SOCOM

While Rotex IIA and MARS seem to be using a special Flash Hider to attach itself, QDN and Rotex V uses a standard NATO A2 flash hider.

Some examples:

  • QD: Quick-Detach (sometimes used for the QDN version?)
  • RBS QDN: RBS suppressor with Quick-Detach on NATO A2 flash hider
  • RBS QDM: RBS suppressor with Quick-Detach on MARS
  • GRS: The Rifle Suppressor with Direct-Mountable
  • MARS DM: MARS suppressor without the MARS attachment system, but Direct-Mountable
  • Rotex-x: Suppressor called Rotex-x with QDN

B&T Overview

Graphical

RBS suppressor, default picture on B&T website, with the old style, with direct mount and QDN. The most common: RBS 1

A RBS with QDM (Quick-Detach MARS), rare: RBS 2

A RBS with QDR (Rotex IIA), rare: RBS 2

B&T Rifle Suppressor with Rotex IIA: Rotex IIA

B&T Rifle Suppressor with Rotex V: Rotex V

GRS: GRS

New rotex-x: Rotex-x

Attachments

Rotex IIA

The Rotex IIA seems to be requiring a special B&T Flash Hider / Compensator: Rotex IIA Flash Hider Rotex IIA Compensator

MARS

The Rotex MARS seems to be requiring a special B&T Flash Hider, with a thread: Rotex MARS Flash Hider

NATO A2

The Rotex V Flash Hider, like a standard NATO A2. Different lengths can be used, also a 3-pronged version exists: Rotex MARS Flash Hider

Discussion

The QDN is the newest, and most common nowadays. The QDN attachment is long, covers the whole flash hider with simply a chunk of metal. Heavy, and not a complete gas seal (inherently, as the mechanism keeping the suppressor under tension only fills half of the circumference). Quick to attach, slow to detach. Gets slightly loose when getting very hot. In my case, the rifle is still very gassy.
